The Paleo Diet: Day 1

Today kicked off the first day of the Paleolithic lifestyle and it was an easy day. The first day is always the easiest and coming off of a 3 week span of holiday food and sweets, it felt nice to eat mostly fruits and vegetables.

The meal plan for today included a Paleo breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and dinner was an open meal. For the first two weeks of the Paleo lifestyle, Nichole and I decided to follow the exact meal plan given in the Paleo Diet Book level one. We made a few modifications, in which you’ll see in articles to come.

Today’s Meals

Breakfast:
Breakfast day 1

  • 172 grams(g) of banana
  • 230g of grapes
  • 108g of mango
  • 175g of strawberries
  • 10oz of coffee

This meal hit the spot to start the day off. It felt nice to eat a cleansing meal and not have the typical bagel with peanut butter. After breakfast today, I felt really energized and ended up working on my truck the entire morning. :)

Lunch:
Breakfast day 1

  • 5oz of chicken breast sliced from a 3lb chicken
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tomato

Dinner:
Breakfast day 1

  • Two 10oz bowls of tomato and meat soup at the Olive Garden
  • Two 12oz bowls of mixed greens at the Olive Garden
  • One 10oz glass of white wine

Dinner happened to be an open meal for Nichole and I tonight. The open meal was originally scheduled for breakfast this morning, but we were both craving a cleansing and healthy breakfast coming off of the holidays.

Snack:

  • 110g of mango
  • 1 apple

One of the things I decided to do for the first two weeks and possibly thirty days is to measure all of my food (when possible) before I eat. Keeping these records in the past helped me understand if I was overeating or under eating and then make the proper adjustments for the next day or week to come.

I recommend picking up a small food scale from your local grocer; they run about $20 USD.

The last thing I recommend is keeping a journal during your Paleo Diet 30-day trial. Mimic what I’m doing in this blog post and the posts to come in a composition book or an online journal.

The reason for keeping a journal is so you have an accountability buddy. I did the Paleo Diet two years ago and if it wasn’t for my journal, I would of never stuck with it. There’s something about making a commitment in writing that activates your willpower and keeps you disciplined as you’re starting a new habit.

Here’s to the success of day one on the Paleo Diet! See you tomorrow.

Peace and love,
Big Heart
